The Aylmer Police Services Board is seeking a Chief of Police

The Town of Aylmer is a vibrant community that serves a population of over 7500. We are a diverse multi-cultural community with a large residential area that covers over 6 sq. km.  Aylmer has the largest secondary school in the county and is an economic hub for East Elgin residents.  The Chief of Police is responsible for the Town’s Police Service which consists of 15 full and part-time officers plus 4 full and part-time civilian staff.

Our emphasis is on community based policing, subsequently the successful candidate will be expected to be an active participant in the community. The suitable candidate should be a strategic thinker with excellent communication skills and a proven track record in public/media relations and public speaking.  Experience working in a municipal environment and a demonstrated capacity to manage in a unionized environment are all assets. Further this person will possess progressive managerial ability with a forward thinking view of policing.

Excellent leadership and modern communication skills are required including the ability to inspire teamwork internally and to effectively represent the department to the Town. The Chief works closely with the Police Services Board, staff, the Police Association, the Town Management team, and at times with volunteer and community groups. It is expected that the Chief will continue to build on the progressive path already established to address the changing needs of the service and the community.

We need a Chief who has determination to be financially accountable and to achieve ongoing performance improvement in innovative ways. The successful candidate will have extensive operational and investigative experience as a police officer with a demonstrated responsibility in a senior management role.
