RIDE checks during festive season;

Thinking of Drinking or Drugging and driving this holiday season… think again! On 18th of November Aylmer Police kicked off their “Festive RIDE” campaign that will run until 2nd of January 2022. During the campaign officers on duty and those assigned to paid duties will be in our community checking motorists for sobriety. To date (Jan to Oct) officers have completed 118 RIDE checks and stopped 8110 vehicles and checked drivers for sobriety. 18 persons have been charged with impaired driving by alcohol or drug. To enhance roadway safety, other motorists who suspect someone to be impaired are encouraged to make that potentially life saving call by dialing 911 and reporting the suspected impaired driver.

“Fortunately majority of drivers are responsible and do not drink and drive. As we enter this holiday season, we urge motorists to be responsible and if partaking in festivities, arrange for a safe ride home or plan to stay overnight to avoid becoming a statistic.” Comments Chief Horvat.
