Media Release Jan 25th, Impaired by Drug, Mischief, Fraud

Mischief:

In January 2021, Aylmer Police responded to three incidents of vandalism reported at a Church on John St. North Aylmer ON. On 15th of Jan. 21 sometime overnight, a sign was damaged. Estimated damage; $200.00. On 18th of Jan. 21 another report of two signs damaged were received. Culprits spray-painted the word “CULT” on the two signs situated at the front entrance of the church. On 20th of January 2021, at approximately 2:00 am., unknown persons damaged the sign in front of the church. Aylmer Police are reviewing the evidence obtained. Aylmer Police provided advice on target hardening the location and positioning of video surveillance in order to gain further evidence. Anyone with information is asked to call Aylmer Police or Crime stoppers.

 

Impaired by Drug:

On 20th of January 2021, at approximately 11:04 am, officer on patrol came upon a 2015 Hyundai in Steen park off Spruce St. East Aylmer ON. Officer checked for the occupants and located a female passed out in the driver seat of a running motor vehicle. Officer formed grounds that the female was impaired by drug and she was arrested. Further tests at the station by the officer trained as a drug recognition expert determined that the female was impaired by a combination of CNS Stimulant and Narcotic Analgesic. As a result, 24 year old female from Aylmer has been charged  with Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs.

Facebook Internet Fraud:

On 21st of January 2021 at 9:10 pm., Aylmer Police responded to a complaint of internet fraud. 61-year-old female victim from Aylmer advised that on 20th of January 2021, a male from Montreal contacted her on Facebook purporting to be from a banking institution. He convinced her to complete a transaction for the sum of $769.00. Police was able to trace the suspect to a Facebook account originating from Montreal and flagged as a fraudulent account. Residents are reminded of dangerous practice of providing personal information over the internet and completing transactions with persons that they have not confirmed to be representatives of financial institutions.

Motor Vehicle Collision results in charge of impaired by drug;

On 24th of January 2021, at approximately 12:57 pm., Aylmer Police responded to a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of John St North and Progress Drive Aylmer ON.  A 2002 Jeep being operated by a 21-year-old female from Aylmer was North Bound on John St. and stopped for a traffic light at the intersection. A 2012 Ford pick up being driven by a 32-year-old male from Ingersoll was also North Bound on John St. He failed to slow down and stop for the vehicle ahead resulting in a rear end collision. Officer spoke to the male driver and formed the opinion that he was impaired by drug and arrested him for impaired driving. Further tests at the station by a drug recognition expert concluded that the male was impaired by drug. As a result, he was charged with Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs. Both vehicles sustained moderate damage and had to be towed from the scene. No injuries were reported.
