Fatal Motor Vehicle Collison:

On Tuesday, 9 NOV 21, at 11:20 pm Aylmer Officers attended the Downtown Core in the area of Talbot St and King St, for a report of a Motor Vehicle Collision involving a SUV and a Tractor Trailer Unit.

Investigation thus far has determined that a 2005 Nissan Murano was travelling east on Talbot St when it collided with a Tractor Trailer travelling west on Talbot St.  The force of the impact caused the Nissan Murano to roll and come to a rest on its roof on the south sidewalk of Talbot St.

Both vehicles contained lone occupants.  The Nissan Murano driver was pinned inside the vehicle, which required him to be extricated by Aylmer Fire Dept.  EMS and Firefighters performed life saving measures on the scene to no avail which resulted in the driver being pronounced deceased at the scene.  The deceased driver has been identified as a 56 year old male from St. Thomas.

The stretch of Talbot St from John Street to Queen St was closed to all traffic for approximately 6 hrs while Aylmer Police and a member from the OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigation Unit gathered evidence for the investigation.

A post mortem on the deceased male is scheduled to take place later today.  The driver of the transport truck was not injured.

The name of the deceased male is being withheld by police in order to ensure next of kin have time to be notified

Police are asking for anyone who may have witnessed this event to contact the Aylmer Police at 519-773-3144
