Winter safe driving tips:

As we start to experience inclement weather and driving conditions, Aylmer Police would like to offer motorists some winter driving tips.

Winter driving tips;

  • Consider keeping extra clothing, blankets, flashlight in your vehicle in the event you get stranded. Keep some non-perishable food items inside your vehicle as well.
  • Make sure your tires have lots of tread and are properly inflated. Winter tires should be installed on your vehicle as they are safer in snow and ice conditions.
  • Do not warm up your vehicle in a closed garage.
  • Do not use your cruise control when roads are icy or snow covered.
  • Only go out in inclement weather if necessary.
  • Adjust your speed to road conditions and give yourself extra time to arrive at your destination.
  • Increase your following distance so you can safely stop your vehicle.
  • Accelerate and decelerate slowly.
  • If you get stranded, do not leave your vehicle. Your vehicle becomes a temporary shelter when stranded. Call for assistance and stay in your vehicle until help arrives.
