Winter Driving Tips:

With the current accumulation of snow resulting in snow covered and icy roads, Aylmer Police would like to remind motorists of some safety tips to make their journey a safe and accident free one.

Majority of collisions occur because drivers do not adjust their driving according to the road conditions. “If you see, snow … go slow.”

Use of four-wheel drive option is of assistance however if you need to slow down, four wheel drive does not decrease stopping time on icy, snow covered roads. Increase your distance, decrease your speed when travelling, and give yourself extra time to reach your destination.

If road conditions are poor, stay home and don’t drive if you don’t have to.

Make sure your fluids especially the windshield washer fluid is topped up in your vehicle.  Keep some tools in your car, like a snowbrush and an emergency kit with blankets, water, and anything else you may need if you get stuck.

Police urge vehicle owners to consider winter tires to assist with traction.
